Licencing
Section titled “Licencing”The New Zealand Land Use Management (NZLUM) classification system, including its documentation, structure, definitions, and supporting materials, is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
Under this licence, you are free to:
- Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
- Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use
You must:
- Provide appropriate attribution.
- Include a link to the licence.
- Indicate if changes were made. (You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in a way that suggests that the BSI endorses you or your use.)
Rights and Attribution
Section titled “Rights and Attribution”The NZLUM classification system is:
- Funded by: Ministry for the Environment (MfE) and the Bioeconomy Science Institute (BSI).
- Developed and led by: Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research (MWLR), a group of the BSI.
When reusing or referencing the NZLUM classification system, please acknowledge both MfE and the BSI. A recommended citation is:

Data Usage and Liability
Section titled “Data Usage and Liability”The NZLUM classification system is provided as-is and is intended for public-good use, including:
- scientific research
- policy development and assessment
- environmental reporting
- planning and land management
- education and capability building
Restrictions
Section titled “Restrictions”There are no restrictions on commercial use beyond the requirements of the CC BY 4.0 licence.
Versioning
Section titled “Versioning”NZLUM follows semantic versioning, with update notes and documentation published alongside each release. Prior versions remain valid for use. Backwards incompatiblities should only be made between major versions.
